Andrzej Sulima-Suryn

Poet. He perceived the experience of life according to the meaning of the word "poiesis" – as a material, a creative leaven, a source of creativity, a creative attitude. The poems he wrote and recorded, the drawings, sculptures, installations he made (the so-called monuments of intuition, "The Wind Trap"), the films and happenings he co-created (such as: Ogień i lód, Jestem tutaj) were the natural outcome of his life attitude. He belonged to poetry groups: "Dom Marka" and SDS. Although he was born in Krzyż Wielkopolski, with whose natural surroundings he was closely connected, for a large part of his life he remained on the road towards people and places close to him. In Warmia he became friends with Krzysztof Łepkowski and Waldemar Czechowski. He lived in a house called "Robak". He made contact with the Węgajty Theatre. He wrote a lot, but published only one collection of poems Pomiędzy (1993). The volume Światło (1999), prepared by Suryn, was published after his death. Through the efforts of his mother – Walentyna Suryn, his friends and others, the following were published: Myśli – Surynowe aforyzmy (2001), Więc dołóż do ognia trochę miłości i ciszy (2007), Wyspa Patmos (2008), a bilingual Polish-Czech edition of the poems Oto je cesta tvého jména/ Oto droga twojego imienia (2017). Dialogi z Tomaszem, published in 2003, was transcribed from tape recordings by Wacław Sobaszek, and Erdmute Sobaszek checked them and compared them with the original. Andrzej Sulima-Suryn's artistic activities in the Warmian landscape were an important inspiration for the Wegajty Theatre's outdoor activities during the Theatre Village festivals. In September 1999, the Węgajty Theatre and friends of the poet organised extensive performance activities in the Warmian landscape, referred to as "Surynada". In the forest between Godki and Nowe Kawkowo, Krzysztof Łepkowski unveiled Suryn's "Stone of Remembrance". These events inspired Mieczysław Litwiński to create the play-walk Missa Pagana (2000) with a group of invited artists and trainees.
