Franciszek Strzeszewski

Franek Strzeszewski started working with the Wegajty Theatre/field project while studying Polish language at the University of Warsaw in 1997-2002. He participated in workshops and field activities in and around Węgajty on many occasions, as well as in carolling and alelujka expeditions. From the beginning, he also photographed the activities of the Węgajty Theatre. In 1998-1999 he realised the project "Portrait of the Village. Photographs from Węgajty", which ended with exhibitions: in the Węgajty Theatre, in the Warsaw Cultural Centre (currently the Mazovian Institute of Culture) (1999) and during the Black and White Photography Festival "Zoom. Photographs in times of turmoil. Zakopane - Warsaw" (2002). Since 2002, he has been living in London. After studying at the London College of Communication (2004-2005), he returned to Węgajty to document the workshop and field work of the Theatre, at the same time taking part as a student of the Other Theatre School. The continuation of the "Portrait of the Village" project was a series of his photographs from the village of Nowica, where he had previously travelled for carolling. Selected photographs from this series have been presented in group exhibitions in: London, Manchester, Paris and Toronto.
