Jan Sajdak

Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Faculty of Sculpture. He has realised projects in Poland, Brazil, Germany, Belgium and Armenia. An important area of his experiments is land art - art created from natural materials and placed outdoors, in harmony with the surrounding landscape. For years, he has been making woven arboreal nests for people. A musician, he plays the Afrobrazilian instrument berimbau. He collaborates with the Węgajty Theatre, creating hanging and standing objects made of wicker and other sticks in its vicinity. These objects are inspired by the artist's experience of the ecological educational activities run by Dorota and Krzysztof Łepkowski in Godki, in which he participated as a child. His knowledge of wicker weaves, in turn, was passed on to him by Krzysztof Wrona. Works made by and under the direction of Sajdak were exhibited during the Theatre Village festival and the "Sztuka w obejściu". He also led plaiting workshops in Węgajty on several occasions. According to Sajdak, the Węgajty Theatre combines a high spiritual culture, drawing from ancient sources, with a clear political awareness of the multifaceted problems we, as humanity, have to deal with.
