Jan-Tage Kühling

Theatrologist, director, culture animator. He studied cultural studies and theatre direction. He obtained a master’s degree in applied theatre studies at the Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen (JLU) in Giessen. He is affiliated with the theatre department of the Freie Universität in Berlin. He studies the performative implications of the Anthropocene concept. Since June 2021 he has been working with the directorate of the Performing Arts Programm Berlin, an institution for cultural policy and support for independent performative arts artists in Berlin. From 2015 to 2017, he was a member of the management team of the Amarant Centre in Poznań – a place of culture, art and neighbourhood, where he was responsible for the performance-in-context programme. His research interests include: issues in the fields of performance and ecology, philosophy of performance, art-in-context and community performance. He published on the subjects of dance, performance and theatre. His research was funded by the Heinrich Böll Foundation (2016-2020). He taught classes and workshops at the Justus-Liebig University, the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the Music Academy in Nuremberg, as well as at various cultural institutions and festivals. His artistic works were presented at the Malta Festival, Munetik Symposion in Yerevan, Frankfurt LAB, Mullae Artspace in Seoul, Kana Theatre and as part of the Theatre Village festival in Węgajty. A collaborator of the Węgajty Theatre, he is primarily associated with the Theatre Village festival, both as a volunteer and head of volunteers, and as a lecturer and discussion leader. In 2016, he co-led a workshop in Węgajty with Martin Rosie on building a "waldxylofon" ("forest xylophone").
