Krzysztof Łepkowski

Graduate of art history at the University of Warsaw. Initiator of paratheatrical activities in Suliszewo. Co-founder – with Krzysztof Gedroyć, Ewa Kusiorska, Ryszard Michalski and Wacław Sobaszek – of the Interdisciplinary Creativity and Research Centre Pracownia "Workshop" in Olsztyn and its manager (1978). Author of the action ‘Podróż do świtu’ during the Workshop in Trękus (18-28.08.1977). Co-creator of many activities of the Pracownia, including: "Działania zimowe" in Plutki (7-14.02.1978) and Podróż do domu (with Ewa Kusiorska). Author of texts including: Niektóre kierunki w pedagogice radzieckiej lat dwudziestych (1978), Baśń i legenda w sztuce niemieckiego romantyzmu (1981). In the same year, he and his wife Dorota founded an organic farm in Godki, which he ran until his death (31.12.2004). Co-founder of the Association of Organic Food Producers Ekoland. In 1990 his farm received one of the first Ekoland certifications, renewed in subsequent years. He is inspired by the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. A self-taught expert in the fields of agriculture, education and herbal medicine, he and his wife pioneered ecological activities in Poland (Green Leaf Award – 1996). From the very beginning, the Łepkowskis have seen ecology as a combination of producing healthy food with activities ensuring the protection of natural and cultural heritage and involvement in local activities. Łepkowski undertook these by co-leading the Zielona Gmina Association, founded with his wife, and by serving as a councillor and member of the Jonkowo Municipality Board, where he created the Ecology Committee. A leader of social activities. Together with his wife, he has regularly co-organised and co-managed for many years: ecological classes for children and young people, trainings for adults (including teachers and farmers), green schools and educational-artistic camps, programmes – educational for local youth, conducted in cooperation with the Centre "Borderland of Arts, Cultures and Nations" (e.g. the two-year "Watchmen of the North" programme), as well as meetings, workshops and training sessions for students of the Universities of Warmia and Mazury, Warsaw, Grzybów near Płock, Warsaw University of Life Sciences and the Aleksander Gieysztor Academy of Humanities. He worked with an authorial primary school in Olsztyn. A total of several thousand people have participated in ecological projects in Godki. He completed a training course for leaders of socio-cultural projects of marginalised communities in multicultural regions "Ścieżka Pogranicza 2001/2002". Co-author, with Danuta and Andrzej Jagodziński, Dorota Łepkowska, Ewa Smuk Stratenwerth, Peter Stratenwerth and Jadwiga Dybysławska, of a series of unique textbooks on environmental education for children and young people entitled O czym śpiewają skowronki?. Friend of Wacław Sobaszek since his student days. Advocate for bringing theatre activities to Węgajty in 1982. He is connected to the Węgajty Theatre by a neighbourly, friendly and professional relationship. A member of the Węgajty Association, he has been providing organisational support to the Theatre for years during seminars and workshops, a spectator of performances and a participant in theatre activities. Creator of the stone-sculpture of Andrzej Sulima-Suryn (1999). He is one of the characters in Waldemar Czechowski’s film Teatr Wegajty – never ending journey.
