Mariusz Szczepanek

He is an actor of the Needed Theatre. He comes from Szczytno. Before the accident, he worked professionally in various positions. He was not interested in art. After the accident, a few months' stay in hospital and participation in rehabilitation holidays, he started to attend the Community Self-help Centre in Szczytno. He owes his interest in theatre to its director. It all started with reading poems during ceremonial events at the Community Self-help Centre. The positive reception of the audience and praise from the therapists encouraged Mariusz Szczepanek to develop his acting skills. This became possible after he moved to the Social Welfare Home in Jonkowo. The first period of his stay in Jonkowo was very difficult for Szczepanek for many reasons. Theatre became a remedy for his despair. In the autumn of 2015, he participated as a spectator in an open rehearsal of the play The Street of Crocodiles by residents of the Social Welfare Home. After seeing the performance, he asked Wacław Sobaszek if he could join the group. He made his debut with the interesting role of King Wacław in the play Ubu Król, czyli Polacy (2016). He then went on to play the role of Prince Philip in Iwona poślubiona. 2 (2019) base on Witold Gombrowicz. In the play Ballada o Edku (2020, 2024) on the other hand, he plays the role of Arthur, a somewhat wayward man. For him, working at the Theatre is an important and enriching experience, a source of incredible feelings and impressions. He treats it conscientiously and is critical and demanding towards his own acting. Playing in front of an audience gives him a lot of satisfaction and allows him to develop.
