Tadeusz Burniewicz

Painter, graphic artist, illustrator, graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (1973). In the 1970s, he participated in conceptual art shows and in many exhibitions of painting and drawing. Since 1973, for several years he designed graphics for the inserts "Młodzi piszą" (Young People Write) for the socio-cultural monthly magazine "Warmia i Mazury". Author of several hundred illustrations. After creating the illustrations for the short story Wesele (The Wedding), he began a collaboration with Edward Stachura that lasted several years. He designed covers and illustrations for his books. He also made a living from drawings for the press. As a respected artist in Olsztyn, working with the Pojezierze Socio-Cultural Association, he supported the activities of the Interdisciplinary Creativity and Research Centre Pracownia "Workshop" from the beginning. At the end of the 1980s, his studio was a barge in Amsterdam. He lived between Olsztyn and the Netherlands. There he collaborated with the Dijkstra Gallery. He also continued to work with publishing houses as a designer and illustrator. After returning to Olsztyn, he set up a computer graphics studio with his son Bartek. Many publications and projects in various fields were created there, including: for the BWA in Olsztyn, the Węgajty Theatre, the Węgajty Schola, the Museum of Warmia and Mazury, Michelin Poland, as well as animated films and documentaries. He won numerous awards in the field of drawing and painting. In 2012, he was awarded the Hieronim Skurpski Prize of the Mayor of Olsztyn.
