Witold Broda

Violinist, leader of the Kapela Brodów, researcher of tradition, founder of the musical formation Bractwo Ubogich (1992), with Janusz Prusinowski he co-founded the band Dla Róży (2004). He conducts lessons-concerts devoted to the musical culture of the Polish countryside for primary and secondary school pupils and students. He has been recording albums with Kapela Brodów since 2001. He has received numerous awards for his work. The repertoire he performs "came from wandering, imagination and taste", from more than thirty years of wandering in villages, field research conducted in many places, expeditions (especially carolling expeditions to Transnistria). It consists of secular and religious pieces from the collections of Oskar Kolberg, the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Department of Ethnomusicology and Hymnology of the Catholic University of Lublin, and own compositions. With the Kapela Brodów he performed in: Morocco, Ireland, Wales, Germany, Lithuania, Russia, the Netherlands, Denmark, Estonia and Moldova. He has also created music for theatre performances and films. He began working with the Węgajty Theatre in the late 1980s. At the time, he was a student of psychology. As an actor and musician (drummer) he performed in Vincenz's Stories. He co-created The Inn Towards Eternal Peace based on Czesław Miłosz's The Issa Valley, working on the role of Balthazar. He ultimately did not appear in the production. He left the Theatre in 1992. He co-created the Wegajty Theatre’s Carolling and Alleluias expeditions. He also took part in an expedition to the Hutsul region
